Continents of Want

Beneath my laughter, shifting murmurs crawl
A fault line cleaves the susurrus, intent to sound.
The fragile crust stands quivering for its fall,
Its quake subdued where primordial truths hold ground.

Desire runs like the current under bedrock,
Eroding edges, carving hidden streams.
What once was whole is fractured, yet not lone
A continent that quakes within our dreaming.

Between the still and birth, the cry and flame,
I taste the metal heat of worlds unmade,
Where heat broods in pockets absent name,
And buried wants grow sharper as they fade.

Let granite crack. Let sediments divide.
No ocean stills the tremor of the pull.

Deeper yet, where pressure folds the past,
Where mountains rise from secrets unconfessed,
A hunger sleeps in caverns sealed and immense
A restless fault within my emptied chest.

Each aftershock unthreads the world I know,
Untwines the rafters braced by certainty.
Desire hums beneath me, murmur-low,
Uncharted, shifting, pressed to be set free.

A continent must drift before it drowns,
A body bends before it splits in two.
Yet I will stand until the earth unwounds
What trembles most still waits to break through.
