The Unshaken Throne

Before the first live-ash flared in the void,
before waters coiled in the hollowed earth’s palm,
before the moving air parted loam into flesh,
He was.
Not waiting. Not becoming.
Whole. Absolute. Unmoved.

No stray current in the blood of time
ever flees His decree.
The stars are not free to stagger
from their charted course.
The cedar does not bend
but by His whispered will.
The lion’s hunger, the sparrow’s fall,
the breaking of a nation,
the flickering of a wick
all held in the grip of His unsearchable mind.

Man carves his schemes into the wind
and calls them fate.
He builds his citadels of sand
and dares the the pull to recede.
But the counsel of the Lord
stands eternal, unmoved
by the quivering hands of grit.
He sets kings on their brittle thrones,
pulls them down like leaves in winter.
The wrath of man will praise Him,
the rebellion of angels will serve Him,
for even the howl of the wolves
is woven into the song of His kavod.

Tell me, then
what shall stand against Him?
Not the war-cries of nations,
not the folly of scholars,
not the quivering of weak hearts
crying out for a lesser god,
a god with limits, a god on chains.
Shall the clay dispute the hands of the Potter?
Shall the shadow wrench itself
from the body that casts it?
The answer is written in the pith of creation:
His hand does all He pleases.

forbearance is not begged from Him
as from an unwilling judge.
the gift unearned is not pried from reluctant fingers.
He is not bound by debt,
not chained by expectation.
If He saves, He saves completely
not by the will of the flesh,
not by the runner’s speed,
not by the dreamer’s wish,
but by the sovereign blaze of His love.

So bow, quivering and whole.
Not to a god who waits for permission,
not to a god whose plans hinge on the will of men,
but to the One whose voice shaped time,
whose fingers wove your name
into the book before radiance had name or form.

And see, He is good.
The Unmoved Mover bends near.
The Unshaken bends to lift the broken.
Sovereign in justice, sovereign in the gift unearned,
sovereign in all things,
now and forever,
world without end.
